5-Eleven Hoops is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is on a mission to unlock the strengths and full potential of kids on the Autism Spectrum through sports in supportive and inclusive spaces.
Founder, Stacy McAlister Jr. created 5-Eleven Hoops in 2015 after hosting a basketball clinic with the Brunei Special Olympics during his tenure playing there. He discovered that the drills worked on in basketball could help with a child with Autism cognitive and physical development. After the event he began to search for yearlong programs for his son who is on the Autism Spectrum and found that there were limited sports programs available. Upon returning home, 5-Eleven Hoops was created.
5-Eleven Hoops incorporates children from various life walks with the clinics allowing families to participate. This active play initiative was designed to help provide positive outcomes for youth and their families currently dealing with Autism and other intellectual/physical disabilities. McAlister created this organization in his own backyard and by using his pre-existing training and knowledge. Stacy has assembled a system of drills and basketball plays to build participants sportsmanship, social skills, coordination, strength & cognitive development. His program was built and inspired from helping his own son learn, grow and develop during the early stages of his Autism diagnosis.
